Landmark safety certifiability enables aviation-grade memory protection without performance trade-offs by neutralizing attackers’ ability to find and exploit vulnerabilities

MCLEAN, Va. — May 14, 2025RunSafe Security, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions for critical infrastructure, including the aviation and aerospace industries, today announced its flagship product, RunSafe Protect, will become the first-of-its-kind cybersecurity solution to achieve Safety of Flight certifiability under DO-178C standards, ready for inclusion in DAL-A systems by the end of 2025. With these artifacts, tests, and requirements, RunSafe Protect will integrate with Lynx Software Technologies’ MOSA.ic platform, supporting Lynx’s advanced aviation implementations, to deliver the world’s first DAL-A certified memory safe real-time operating system.

“Lynx is pleased to integrate RunSafe’s memory protection technology into our MOSA.ic platform, establishing a robust cybersecurity foundation aligned with the highest safety certification standards in the aviation industry,” said Tim Reed, CEO of Lynx Software Technologies. “Our customers are demanding stronger security and cyber protection, and we’re proud to deliver what may be the industry’s first memory safe real-time operating system — combining safety and security in a way that today’s aviation and defense platforms require. As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, this DO-178C-certifiable solution delivers critical protection for next-generation avionics systems.”

Initial use cases within the Lynx MOSA.ic platform include support for both LynxElement and the LynxOS-178 RTOS to secure safety-critical systems with missions essential to national security.

Based on surging demand for safety-oriented security across aviation, automotive, rail, and industrial automation, RunSafe’s certifiability milestone establishes a new paradigm for securing both commercial and military aviation systems, as well as surface and unmanned vehicles, against cyber threats. RunSafe Protect provides a deterministic defense that transforms cybersecurity from a potential safety risk into a safety enhancement without compromising operational performance.

Achieving Safety of Flight certifiability under DO-178C standards builds on successful prior deployments of RunSafe Protect with aviation and aerospace leaders, such as Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, Bell Flight, and projects with the U.S. Department of Defense.

“RunSafe Protect represents a paradigm shift in aviation cybersecurity,” said Doug Britton, Chief Strategy Officer at RunSafe Security. “By demonstrating our credibility and rigor with respect to Safety of Flight certification, we’re demonstrating that effective cybersecurity at the edge  can be implemented in the most demanding systems without the traditional trade-offs in schedule slippage, performance, or system reliability that the industry has historically faced.”

RunSafe Protect’s patented memory relocation technology secures aviation systems by randomizing where functions load into memory every time software is run, neutralizing attackers’ ability to exploit memory-based vulnerabilities. Unlike conventional security approaches, RunSafe Protect:

  • Requires no source code modifications, rewrites, or compiler adjustments
  • Maintains system performance while providing deterministic defense
  • Satisfies multiple additional airworthiness security objectives, including DO-326/356
  • Protects against both known and undiscovered memory vulnerabilities

“With DO-178C DAL-A compliance, we’re establishing that cybersecurity solutions can meet the industry’s most stringent safety requirements while addressing 70% of all vulnerabilities that are found in compiled code without performance degradation,” said Joseph M. Saunders, Founder and CEO of RunSafe Security. “Our ability to integrate with Lynx Software’s MOSA.ic platform demonstrates how RunSafe’s technology can secure next-generation modular avionics systems while maintaining the highest safety standards.”

RunSafe is on track to complete the DO-178C certification data package by October 2025 and DO-330 by January 2026.
